Our research group investigate how children learn native prosody, in particular, language-specific prosodic phrasing and form-meaning mappings, during the last trimester of pregnancy and the first three years of life. Adopting an original interdisciplinary and cross-linguistic approach, we study the role of biologically motivated innate mechanisms, input-based learning mechanisms that drive the development toward mastery of language-specific prosodic competence in both the prenatal and postnatal periods in the auditory modality, and the role of visual attention in the postnatal prosodic development.
